In preparation for AAA's plans to establish a research post for the Mekong region in Vietnam in early 2010, I made a touch-base research trip to Ho Chi Minh City – it was a short but full three days of meetings and visits. Grateful to my hospitable guides, artist Dinh Q Le and Professor Nora Taylor, who sits on AAA's Advisory Board and currently teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, we met and spoke with a number of artists, art professionals and organizations working to promote contemporary art locally.

The phenomenon of and issues surrounding the returning Viet Kieu artists to Ho Chi Minh City in the past five years was partially addressed in a synaesthetic performance by artist Erin O'Brien at the home of Dinh Q Le, entitled GEO Home, a performance in search of home.
