The theme of this year's Kwangju Biennale is P_A_U_S_E. It attempts "to bring a temporary and reflective halt on the rapidity of the twentieth century, a century that we ran through without taking a breath."

The 4th Kwangju Biennale is made up of four projects:
Pause curated by artistic director of the Biennale, Wan-kyung Sung, Hou Hanru and Charles Esche.
Sites of Korean Diaspora curated by Yong Soon Min.
Stay of Execution curated by Wan-kyung Sung.
The Connection curated by Guyon Chung.
