'This triennial event is planned as a great civic festival as well as art exhibition. Since the artists have been asked to create new works for the exhibition, many of them have travelled to Yokohama to construct or set up their works and attend the opening ceremony. This will mean extensive and intimate interaction between the artists and the people of Yokohama, and this should be a valuable experience to everyone involved. It will lead to the realization that the work of these artists, while on the cutting edge of the contemporary art scene, goes beyond a self-satisfied existence on the inside of the art system, making direct contact with actual society and resonating with the pressing realities of the present age.' - excerpt from chapter entitled 'MEGA-WAVE: Towards a New Synthesis' (author unknown)

Catalogue published on the occasion of the first international triennale of contemporary art 'Yokohama 2001'. Includes foreword by The Japan Foundation, essays by the artistic directors,  texts on each artist, as well as their selected biographies.
