This is the catalogue of Wang Qingsong's solo exhibition at the Courtyard Gallery, Beijing. It features a sampling of the artist's earlier works and two of his recent series, entitled China Mansion and Romantique. Shot in an 1800-square-meter movie studio in Beijing, these two works address the artist's observations and concerns of China's social reality in the age of globalisation. This can be seen through references made to oil paintings by Western masters, such as poses of figures in paintings by Raphael, Rubens, Velasquez and Ingres in China Mansion, and the co-existence of religious characters taken from both Christian and Buddhist art.

Artist biography is included.
