It is the catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition Modern Style in East Asia 2004 at the Beijing Tokyo Art Project from May 15 to June 13, 2004.
'In the course of 'globalization', Asia has experience the shock by the West. Attracted by the Western lifestyle, they are gently trying to compromise it with their traditional way of living. How Asia build up their own liftstyle is not just aiming at self Westernization, but creating a brand new one that is modern and unique.
As a planning representative of this exhibition, I'd like to take the relationship between the style of life and the city positively. It is where artist get stimulated and motivated for creation. Here, we have put the idea of 'liftstyle' into six parts of living space; bedroom, library, dining room, kitchen and washroom. If visitors notice new 'Asian Wave' out of these works, I'd say our concept would be realized.'
