This exhibition catalogue was produced on the occasion of a group exhibition entitled 'Contemporary Indian Art'  organised at the Royal Academy of Arts, London from September to October 1982. The exhibition is a retrospective on the development and evolution of contemporary Indian art practices, and has been divided under two separate exhibitions entitled 'The Gesture, and Motif' followed by 'Stories, Situations'. The former category includes artists whose work have an emblematic quality with figures that are highly stylised. The second category includes artists whose work have a story telling ability. They radically transform the real world into a compelling imaginative narrative. This catalogue lists the different artists featured in the exhibition, along with their brief biography.
