LIKE A FEVER

Photologue | Seoul: Defense Security Command (DSC)

Having lost its original function, and while waiting to be transformed, the former military space of the Seoul Station building was used to house ‘Platform 2009’. This year’s event, ‘Platform in Kimusa’, investigated the passage of time under the heading ‘Void of Memory’. Even though it is located in the heart of Seoul, neighbouring Korea’s district of cutting edge art, DSC was an unknown and unfamiliar place. Despite it being in existence for decades the public have no recollection of it. Admission without a guide was possible after 5pm and allowing nightfall to present the viewers with a somewhat eerie atmosphere inside the outdated and historical building.

The exhibition consists of four sections: Co-curated by Mami Kataoka & Sunjung Kim (P1), Artists Recommended by Artists (P2), Projects by Invited Curators (P3) and Projects by Invited Institutions (P4). Following on from this exhibition DSC will be used to house the new annex of Korea’s National Museum of Contemporary Art; given its prime location this should quash the museum’s reputation of for having inconvenient access.

* ‘Platform in Kimusa’ will be remembered as the last show that the late Emil Goh participated in.
