East-West ein kunstlersymposium is a project in which Central Asian and European artists gather for annual Summer Academies and workshops in Austria and Central Asia. The artists are trained in print techniques and supported in their initiatives aiming at the restoration of educational, printing and exhibition facilities in their home countries. The results of their joint work are compiled in portfolios and presented in exhibitions both in Europe and the capitals of the participants' Central Asian home countries.

The project is initiated by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is being implemented by the Austrian cultural center "Kulturwerkstatt Uferstockl" in cooperation with galleries and cultural initiatives in Central Asia (NGO ARTilek/Bishkek, Bishkek Center of Graphic Print, Gallery Modigliani/Dushanbe, Gallery Tengri Umai/Almaty) and Europe.

Artist statements are included in the present publication.
