General Search tips:
- Fields indicated with ‘(中文 / English)’ support search
terms in either English or traditional Chinese characters.
- Use UK English spelling.
- Hanyu Pinyin is used for Romanised Chinese spelling, except for
Taiwanese names, which use the Wade-Giles system.
- Do not use accented or modified characters.
- Searches are not case-sensitive.
- There is no spell check function, therefore incorrect spelling
will show an inaccurate search result.
- For general reference books, exhibition catalogues and periodicals,
only content related to Asian countries or Asian artists is recorded,
under the ‘Chapter Headings’ and ‘Participating
Artists’ fields.
Search tips for ‘Name’:
- Searches can be undertaken using both traditional Chinese characters
and English (中文/English).
- Enter Chinese names in either Romanised English spelling with no
hyphenation or traditional Chinese characters, for example:
a) either 姚瑞中, Yao Ruizhong or Yao Juichung (in Wade-Giles system)
b) either 徐冰 or Xu Bing
- Names can be searched for in various forms, for example:
to search for Raymond Wingkee Fung, enter ‘馮永基’ or ‘Raymond
Wingkee Fung’ or ‘Fung Wingkee’ or ‘Raymond
Fung’ or ‘Fung Raymond’.
- Search for only one person at a time, i.e., search ‘Gu Wenda’, ‘Xu
Bing’ separately. A search for ‘Gu Wenda and Xu Bing’ will
not return any result.
Search tips for ‘Title’:
- Searches can be undertaken using both traditional Chinese characters
and English (中文/English).
- Use Boolean operator ‘and’ or ‘or’ if searching
partial title. For example,
’creative and contemporary’.
- Otherwise, search title words must be entered in the exact sequence
of the original title. For example, to search for the title Creative
Ceramics: Works by Contemporary Artists from Macao and Hong Kong,
input‘creative works contemporary’, not ‘works
by contemporary artists’.
- Titles are entered in the exact way in which they are published,
including symbols such as: &, +, =, ^. For example, 4+1 New
Chinese Contemporary Art.
- If an original title is only in Chinese, a translated English title
in Hanyu Pinyin will be assigned.

and English (中文/English).
- Use this field to search for words that appear in the following
fields: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Chapter Headings, Description,

find records which have all the search terms on the same record;

find records in which the word ‘installation’ or ‘photography’ appears.
